Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom
Walt Disney Imagineering hired Creative Capers to produce animation for a major adventure-style interactive attraction called Sorcerers Of The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. It debuted in 2012 and quickly became a fan favorite. This project masterfully blends 90 minutes of theatrical film animation with gaming technology and is an interactive entertainment the type of which has never before been seen in the marketplace. The attraction is tremendously successful, with more than 20,000 people playing it every day.
Upon entering the attraction, guests are given a starter pack of spell cards to use. With Merlin as guide, they are taught how to use them against villains who have taken over the Magic Kingdom. Guests follow clues and find secret portals hidden around the entire park to battle villains and their henchman.
Producing the animation for this game was a challenging and exciting task. Not only were we asked to animate some of Disney’s most iconic characters from ten beloved films, we also had to translate scenes from the Magic Kingdom in the same feature film style. Also, each animation cycle had to seamlessly fit into a complicated wireframe of actions for gameplay to be effective. Lastly, the scenes are viewed around the park in different lighting situations, from inside a dark room to broad daylight, and they interchange at whim. However, Creative Capers rose to the task and delivered great work, on time and on budget.
